It is with deep disappointment that I would like to bring to your attention a serious case of contamination in the nutrition supplicment manufactured by Novartis given to patients at Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai, India.
My father has been admitted to Apollo Specialty Hospital, Teynampet, Chennai for the third consecutive time since October 2006. He has hemi paresis and aphasia caused by repeated strokes in past one year. Currently he is admitted to the same hospital for more 40 days since August 2007. Since he cannot swallow on his own, his diet is being sent through a tube running through his nose. He has been advised by the dietician to get a mix of a nutrition supplement called IMPACT (Manufactured by: Novartis). Today morning to our utter disgust, we found larvae and insects in one of the new packets of IMPACT that has been opened. I have had multiple meetings with the Hospital personnel (Ms.Muneera, Guest Relations, Ms. Hema, PRO; Mr. Dillibabu, Pharmacy Manager; Dr. Paul Dilip, The Medical Superindentent). I have given a formal complaint to the Medical Superindentent, Dr. Paul Dilip today morning who personally saw the larvae floating in the feed that was partially given to my father and convened a meeting with the national sales manager of Novartis Mr.Ramesh where in they said they would get back to me with a report on the investigation. I asked the manager to give me a letter on what has happened and decided in the meeting to which he promptly refused. I feel it all adds up to bureaucratic red tape with no proper follow up and accountability.
Iím thoroughly disappointed by the quality control processes of the well known company like Novartis and lack of any additional quality control processes in a hospital as renowned as Apollo. What would have happened if we have not seen the food before injecting it through my fatherís nose? At least these were visible to our eyes. What if there are microscopic organisms in the syrups, tablets and injections which we never question and trust Apollo Hospitals with our life.
I would like to get to the bottom of this matter and hold the erring parties accountable and further highlight this matter at the appropriate forum and get this addressed for the welfare of the gullible public.
