AirTel Cell phone service 9840532572 and 9840532826 locked by vendor.
I am a NRI and I am here on vacation. I am staying in Sivakasi. I came to Chennai on 30th October and decided to purchase a cell phone before I left for Sivakasi. I purchased two cell phones (one for me and one for my wife) from UniverCell in Spencer plaza. They sold me Sim cards for the AirTel service with 6 year validity and recharge for a total of Rs 747 each. I have given them my Canadian Driverís license as proof of ID and address. They accepted it and activated my phones. I reached Sivakasi next day. The phones service worked for 3 days and then I started getting calls from AirTel asking for my proof of address and my service was locked. Then I provided my local Telephone Bill for proof of address to the local Airtel distributor. Three days later the service was restored. Then since November 27th my service has been locked. I am unable to make calls from my phones. I have contacted the local UniverCell branch and the AirTel distributor and they have told me that I have to give them a copy of my passport for the proof of Id. I have complied and gave them copies of mine and my wifeís passport. Till now Airtel refuse to unlock my phone service. Two days ago the local Univercell dealer told me that AirTel requires copy of my Visa. I am not sure why they would want to collect all my personal details. I want to trash the AirTel sim cards and I would like you to help me get my money back and bring to every ones attention about the fraudulent dealings of Univercell and AirTel.
